Canalside sake breweries in Fushimi offering tours, tastings, and boat rides past Edo-era kura.
Fushimi's waterfront sake district clusters around canals fed by the same pure underground springs that make its brews famous. Gekkeikan's Okura Sake Museum and Kizakura's gallery offer tastings and tours of Edo-era kura storehouses, while small bars pour seasonal namazake straight from neighboring vats. Boat rides along the Horikawa Canal pass beneath willow-draped bridges and whitewashed brewery walls.
Sit at the counter if possible. You'll see the preparation up close and chefs often offer extras to counter guests. Rent a bicycle to cover more ground between temples. The flat terrain and bike paths make it the best way to explore.
