Kyo Osaka Michi Trail

For most of Koyasan's history, the Kyo Osaka Trail was the favored pilgrimage route to the mountain sanctuary, chosen by eight out of ten pilgrims during the Edo period because its gradient is gentler than the other six approaches. The trail takes its name from the Kyoto and Osaka pilgrims who walked it to reach Nyonindo Hall, one of the women's halls that once ringed Koyasan's perimeter during the centuries when women were barred from entering the main precincts. Nyonindo on this trail is the only such hall still standing. From Kamuro Station, the full route to Koyasan's center covers roughly 11 kilometers on mostly paved, well-marked terrain.
