Kusasenri Grasslands

A vast volcanic grassland plateau within the Aso caldera, centered on a shallow crater lake where horses graze against the backdrop of smoking Mount Nakadake. The expansive green meadow fills an ancient volcanic vent and is one of the most photogenic landscapes in Kyushu. In winter the grass turns golden, and controlled burns in spring maintain the open landscape.
