黒川温泉 湯あかり
Warm winter glow of thousands of floating bamboo lanterns.
From late December to early April, the famous hot spring village of Kurokawa Onsen hosts the 'Yuakari' light event. Thousands of 'mari-tōrō' (hollowed-out bamboo spheres with lights inside) are placed in the Tanoharu River and along the town's forested paths, creating a warm and ethereal atmosphere. The light event was started using bamboo thinned from local forests to protect the mountain environment. The warm light reflecting on the steam from the river is especially beautiful during light snowfall. It is one of the most romantic winter destinations in Kyushu, perfect for visitors wearing yukata after a soak in the open-air baths.
Wash thoroughly at the shower stations before entering the bath. This is non-negotiable etiquette. Bring a small towel but keep it out of the water.
