Iyashi no Sato Kiyashiki
Overview
Highland ryokan a kilometer above the village, with the Mantenkyo-yu open-air mixed bath under a full sky of stars.
Set on a wooded hillside about a kilometer above the main village, Iyashi no Sato Kiyashiki has 10 detached rooms each with their own private outdoor bath. The Mantenkyo-yu (literally 'starry sky bath') is a mixed open-air pool positioned for an unobstructed view of the night sky. Day visitors are welcome at the public baths through the bath-pass system.
Local tips
The drive up is steep and unmarked; ask at any village ryokan for directions or take the village shuttle.
