Overview

Kurama and Kibune are paired mountain villages connected by a 30-minute hiking trail through cedar forest north of Kyoto. Kurama-dera crowns one peak; Kibune Shrine anchors the other valley. In summer, restaurants along the Kibune River serve kaiseki on platforms built over the water.
