Overview

The entrance to Kurago, a cave in Kojima village, is just ahead, through the metal gate set into the rock face.

Kurago Cave cuts roughly 600 meters through limestone on Kojima Island, opening at the far end onto a coastal reef. Rainwater filtering through the plateau above feeds underground springs, and the cave mouth spring once served as a fresh water source for nearby villagers, who drew the year's first water here at New Year. About 100 meters in, Kurago Falls drops 10 meters into a subterranean pool. Beyond that, passages become more demanding, with thigh-deep water and low ceilings in places. The cave is intended for experienced, self-sufficient cavers. There is no lighting inside, and some sections are submerged, so carry your own light source and a backup.
