Kuniyoshi Castle Ruins

国吉城跡
Hilltop castle ruins in Mihama that withstood repeated Asakura clan sieges. Wakasa Bay views from the summit.
Kuniyoshi Castle once stood above the coastline of Mihama in Fukui, and while the keep is long gone, the stone foundation walls and earthwork terraces remain on the wooded hillside above the town. The site offers clear views of the Wakasa Bay fishing coast and the surrounding forested ridges. A walking trail from the base climbs through cedar and oak to the highest platform, taking about twenty minutes at a steady pace. The ruins are rarely crowded, and the combination of coastal views and intact stonework makes the walk worthwhile. Mihama is best visited by car, as public transport in this part of Fukui is limited.
