国頭村森林公園
People of all ages are welcome at Kunigami Forest Park, where the subtropical wilderness of Yambaru National Park can be enjoyed in safety and comfort on daytime or overnight trips.
Kunigami Forest Park provides easy access to the subtropical Yambaru forest without requiring hiking experience or gear. Paved paths loop through itajii trees, oak groves, and flying spider-monkey tree ferns, a prehistoric species that can grow 15 meters tall. Hentona Lake at the park's center has an underwater seaweed habitat supporting sword-tailed newts. Wooden bungalows, a camping area, and cooking facilities make overnight stays straightforward. The Yambaru Forest Toy Museum inside the park displays handcrafted wooden toys by artisans from across Japan. An astronomical observatory is nearby, and a star-watching area opens at night.
