Temple #8 on the Shikoku pilgrimage, reached through towering cedars in the mountains of Awa.
Temple number eight on the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage, nestled in the forested mountains of Awa, Tokushima. The approach through towering cedar trees sets a contemplative mood, leading to the main hall and three-story pagoda. The temple is associated with prayers for safe childbirth and sits at the boundary between lowland and mountain terrain on the pilgrimage route.
Remove shoes before entering any hall. Look for a shoe rack at the entrance. Carry a plastic bag for your shoes if none is provided.
