子安地蔵寺
Perched on a hillside thirty minutes from Miyukitsuji Station, Koyasujizo Temple is known for its winding trellises of century-old wisteria that turn purple in early May. The grounds are planted with enough variety to offer blooms for eleven months of the year. The main hall enshrines a Jizo statue, the Buddhist protector of children, and the temple has attracted visitors praying for safe births since the Edo period, when a local lord had the grounds restored after his prayers here were answered. Small Jizo figures are scattered throughout the grounds, each wearing a hand-sewn red hat and apron, with offerings of toys, sweets, and origami cranes left nearby.
Remove shoes before entering any hall. Look for a shoe rack at the entrance. Carry a plastic bag for your shoes if none is provided.
