Overview
Park on Mount Kotohiki known for massive coin-shaped sand art visible from above, surrounded by cherry trees and trails.
Kotohiki Park in Kanonji sits above Ariake Beach, a two-kilometer stretch of white sand on the Seto Inland Sea, and the park's elevated vista point looks out over the Zenigata Sand Coin, a seventeenth-century sand sculpture said to bring long life and luck with money to everyone who sees it. The coin is illuminated at night. Up the forested Mt. Kotohiki, a 381-step staircase leads to Kotohiki Hachimangu Shrine, and partway up the steps are two Buddhist temples, the 68th and 69th stops on the Shikoku 88-Temple Pilgrimage. The beach below is calm and good for wading.
