Overview
A beautifully renovated public bathhouse with both traditional and outdoor rock baths in the heart of old Ueno.
Operating since the early Showa era, Kotobukiyu underwent a thoughtful renovation that preserved its neighborhood sento spirit while adding a rotenburo (outdoor bath) and a sauna. The interior features hand-painted Mt. Fuji murals in the classic sento tradition. At the standard Tokyo sento price, it offers an authentic communal bathing experience steps from Ueno's museum district.
Local tips
Visit around 9pm on weeknights when the crowd thins out. The rotenburo under the night sky with the neighborhood sounds is pure Tokyo magic.
