Overview

A 19th-century ship repair slip featuring Japan's oldest Western-style brick building.

Featuring the oldest Western-style brick building in Japan, this slip dock was used to haul ships ashore for repair. The massive brick winch house still contains original steam-powered machinery imported from Scotland. It stands as a vivid relic of Nagasaki's early maritime industrialization.
