Collection of 1,700 Korean art pieces from paintings to ceramics, furniture to household items across history.
The Koryo Museum in Tokyo's Higashinakano neighborhood is a small but significant institution dedicated to the art and history of the Korean Peninsula, with a permanent collection of approximately 1,700 pieces spanning ceramics, paintings, textiles, and household objects. Founded in 1990, the museum serves as an important cultural bridge between Japanese and Korean communities, showcasing the deep artistic traditions of the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties. Rotating exhibitions highlight specific themes such as celadon pottery techniques, Buddhist art, or the everyday aesthetics of Korean folk crafts. The building itself is modest, but the curation is thoughtful and the collection includes pieces rarely seen outside of Korea. Located a short walk from Higashinakano Station, it can be visited in about an hour.
