Koman no Yu Footbath

This small covered footbath beside a side street near Seki Jizoin Temple uses iron-rich spring water that surfaces about 50 meters away, maintained at a comfortable 42 degrees Celsius. The yellowish, silky water is said to close the pores and keep warmth in the body. The bath takes its name from Koman, a female swordfighter from the late eighteenth century who grew up as an orphan in the Aizuya restaurant just opposite the temple. Trained to thrust only, never to parry, she avenged her father's murder as an adult. Open Tuesday through Sunday, 10am to 5pm, year-round at no charge.
