荒神谷遺跡
The site of Japan's greatest archaeological discovery, 358 bronze swords unearthed from an ancient hillside.
In 1984, a farmer's chance discovery led to the excavation of 358 bronze swords from the 1st-3rd century, more than all previously found in Japan combined. The adjacent museum displays the swords and explores the mystery of ancient Izumo's power. A lotus pond with 2,000-year-old seed varieties blooms pink in summer.
Visit in July when the ancient lotus flowers bloom. They were grown from 2,000-year-old seeds found at the site.
