Kojakuji
temple
香積寺
Jodo sect temple in Toyota with tranquil gardens and traditional architecture in the Mikawa region.
Hillside Zen temple complex in Toyota, Aichi Prefecture, founded over 700 years ago and set among ginkgo and maple trees that turn gold and deep red in late October and November. The main hall and several subsidiary buildings are arranged across different levels of the slope, connected by stone paths and wooden steps under the tree canopy. The autumn color at Kojakuji is among the most vivid in the Mikawa region, and the fallen leaves on the path and around the stone lanterns are part of the appeal. The complex is quiet most of the year and uncrowded even during peak foliage season, which typically runs from late October to mid-November.
Purify your hands at the temizuya before approaching the main hall. Left hand first, then right, then pour water into your left hand to rinse your mouth.
