Koenji Pal Shotengai

Koenji's covered shopping arcade stretches from the station through a neighborhood that doubles as Tokyo's vintage-clothing and underground-music capital. Nearly half the clothing shops sell secondhand treasures from the 60s through 90s, interspersed with independent record stores, punk-rock bars, and century-old tofu shops. The August Awa Odori dance festival transforms the entire arcade into a river of costumed dancers and taiko drummers.
