Overview
Trailhead center for Odai's Osugidani valley, giant cedar forests, ravine hikes, and waterfall circuits.
The Osugidani area in the deep mountains of Mie prefecture is the gateway into a remote stretch of ancient cedar forest along the Odai River gorge. The Tozan Center serves as the trailhead base, providing maps and information for hikers heading into the old-growth trees, some of which are over a thousand years old. The gorge walk follows the river through steep canyon walls hung with moss, and short trails lead to individual named cedars. It is genuinely quiet here on most days.
