A preserved section of collapsed waterfront left exactly as it fell in the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake.

This open-air memorial preserves a 120-meter section of Kobe's Meriken Wharf exactly as it was destroyed by the January 17, 1995 Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. The buckled concrete, tilted lampposts, and cracked pier remain untouched as a visceral reminder. Adjacent panels tell the story of the 6,434 people who lost their lives. It's a profoundly moving stop on Kobe's waterfront walk.
