Kiyomizu Waterfall

Kiyomizu Waterfall in Ogi, Saga Prefecture, is a sacred 75-meter cascade associated with the nearby Kenryu-ji Temple of the Tendai Buddhist sect, where the falls have been used for spiritual purification rituals for centuries. The waterfall plunges down a sheer cliff face into a clear pool below, accessible via a shaded stone staircase that descends through dense forest. In June, the approach path becomes especially magical when thousands of hydrangea bushes bloom in shades of blue, purple, and pink, creating one of Saga's most beautiful seasonal displays. The falls are designated as one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls, and the combination of natural beauty, spiritual atmosphere, and seasonal flowers makes this a highlight of any visit to the Ogi area.
