Kitan Strait Lookout
landmark
紀淡海峡を望む景色
Setonaikai National Park stretches from Wakayama Prefecture here in the east all the way to Fukuoka and Oita prefectures in the west.
From this vantage point on the edge of Setonaikai National Park, you look out over the Kitan Strait toward the island cluster of Tomogashima, with the long silhouette of Awaji Island stretching behind it. On a clear day, the Akashi Kaikyo suspension bridge is visible about 40 kilometers northwest, and the Shikoku Mountains appear to the southwest. The strait is technically three separate channels of varying depth, with most maritime traffic funneling through the widest, the Yura Strait. Sunsets here are particularly striking. The park itself encompasses 900,000 hectares and 3,000 islands across 11 prefectures.
