Kisugedaira Park
キスゲ平園地
Overview
Kirifuri Highlands meadow famed for its day-lily bloom in early summer, climbed by the Tenku Kairou stairway above the Visitor Center.
Kisugedaira Park lies on the slopes of the Kirifuri Highlands northeast of central Nikko, named for the kisuge (Nikko day-lily, Hemerocallis dumortieri var. esculenta) that carpet the meadow yellow each year between mid-June and early July. From the Kirifuri Highlands Visitor Center at the trailhead, a 1,445-step wooden stairway known as the Tenkū Kairō (Sky Corridor) climbs the open slope to higher viewpoints, with panoramas across the Kanto plain and toward Mount Akanagi on clear days. Autumn brings rust-colored kaya grasses and silver pampas plumes; winter closes the upper trails to snow. Access is via Tobu bus from Nikko Station to Kirifuri Kogen Bus Stop.
