The Kinosaki International Arts Center opened in Kinosaki Onsen in 2014 with a focus on performing arts and currently runs the only residency of its kind for performing artists in Japan.
Kinosaki International Arts Center opened in 2014 in Kinosaki Onsen and runs Japan's only performing arts residency program of its kind. Each year, around 20 artist programs are selected from applicants worldwide for stays of up to three months, with accommodation and use of facilities provided at no charge. The center has a large main hall, six studios, and seven residences, all available around the clock. Artists share their work with the local community through performances and workshops open to residents and visitors. The program continues a tradition of Kinosaki welcoming writers and artists, a town already known as a literary destination through Shiga Naoya's famous short story.
