Overview

Five million red spider lilies blanketing a river bend every September, unmatched in Japan.

Every September, over five million red spider lilies (higanbana) carpet the riverside meadow formed by a dramatic horseshoe bend of the Koma River. The sheer density of the blooms creates a crimson carpet effect that has no equivalent elsewhere in Japan. Walking paths weave through the flower fields and along the river, where you can wade in summer. The Kinchakuda name means 'drawstring purse', describing the river's shape from above.
