城上神社
Rustic shrine tied to the Iwami silver trade, famous for its roaring dragon ceiling painting.
A beautiful, rustic shrine deeply intertwined with the history of the Iwami Ginzan silver mine. Its most striking feature is the highly detailed painted ceiling inside the main hall, depicting a vibrant roaring dragon. The shrine offered spiritual protection to the wealthy merchants and officials managing the silver trade.
Stand directly beneath the painted dragon and clap your hands; the acoustics of the hall make the dragon 'roar' back at you.
