Keyakidaira Station
landmark
欅平駅
Terminal station of Kurobe Gorge Railway at 599m elevation, panoramic mountain views, hiking trails, outdoor activities.
Keyakidaira Station marks the end of the line on the Kurobe Gorge Railway, and stepping off the train here feels like arriving at the edge of civilization. The surrounding valley offers panoramic views of steep, forested gorges and the emerald-green Kurobe River far below. Several hiking trails branch out from the station, ranging from short walks to river-view lookouts to more challenging treks deeper into the backcountry. The area is at its most spectacular in mid-October to early November when the autumn foliage turns the gorge into a corridor of red, orange, and gold, though the hot spring foot bath near the platform is welcome any time of year.
