Kazagashira
park
風頭公園
Hilltop park in Nagasaki offering panoramic city views, particularly stunning during spring cherry blossom season.
Kazagashira Park sits on a ridge above Nagasaki with a broad observation deck and views over the harbor and surrounding hills. A statue of Ryoma Sakamoto, the 19th-century reformer who played a role in modernizing Japan, stands on the hilltop and is well-known among Japanese visitors. Cherry trees line the paths, making it a popular spot in late March and early April. The park is reached by a short gondola ride or a walking trail from the city below. It's not a long visit, about an hour with the gondola, but the views of Nagasaki from above and the peaceful grounds make it a worthwhile stop.
