Kawazu Seven Waterfalls
河津七滝
Overview
Seven waterfalls cascading down Kawazu River from Amagi mountains, connected by a hiking trail.
Seven cascades drop in quick succession along the Kawazu River as it tumbles down from the Amagi mountains on the Izu Peninsula. The falls range from a modest 2 meters to the 30-meter Odaru, connected by a one-kilometer forest trail with wooden steps and bridges. The gorge was immortalized in Nobel laureate Kawabata Yasunari's novella 'The Izu Dancer,' and a statue of the story's two characters stands near the trailhead. The walk takes about an hour. Spring brings fresh green, summer offers cool shade, autumn lights the maples, and in winter the smallest falls occasionally freeze over.
