An ancient shrine established to appease Mount Fuji after a devastating 9th-century eruption. It is hidden away in a grove of magnificent, towering cedar trees that are over a thousand years old. The thick forest canopy creates a deeply spiritual, hushed environment.
Local tips
Take a short hike up the mountain behind the shrine to find the Tenku no Torii, a modern gate framing Mount Fuji perfectly.
