Overview

Kannon-numa Forest Park is most famous for its stunning fall foliage, but is a peaceful oasis in any season.

A 1.2-kilometer trail circles Kannon-numa Marsh at the center of this forest park, passing several overlooks, small islands, and benches along the way. Eight additional trails branch into the surrounding woodland. Through spring and summer, mizubasho, weeping cherry, azaleas, and hydrangeas bloom in sequence. At the edge of the park, Dake Kannondo temple dates to the Heian period and carries fine woodcarvings inside. The temple was ordered built by warrior Sakanoue Tamuramaro in the 8th century to honor those who fell in a nearby battle. The area is particularly visited for its autumn foliage.
