Kanemori

The Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse complex lines the Hakodate waterfront in a row of late-19th-century buildings that once served as commercial storage. Today the brick interiors hold restaurants, craft shops, a brewery pub, and gift stores selling Hokkaido specialties. The buildings are illuminated at night and reflect on the harbor water, which is especially appealing in December when an outdoor Christmas event runs with lights and an ice skating rink. The area connects directly to Hakodate's Morning Market and the old town, so it works well as part of a half-day waterfront walk. The architecture alone gives the place a character that most shopping districts lack.
