Kaneiji Temple

寛永寺
Most of Kaneiji was destroyed in 1868, leaving its surviving halls in a quiet corner of north Ueno Park. The main draw is the Tokugawa mausolea, viewable by guided tour. They retain the gilt metalwork and carved transoms that suggest the temple’s enormous former scale.
Remove shoes before entering any hall. Look for a shoe rack at the entrance. Carry a plastic bag for your shoes if none is provided.
