Kanazawa Castle Park

金沢城公園
Reconstructed 16th-century castle famous for its extensive surrounding garden, with tours.
Kanazawa Castle was the seat of the powerful Maeda clan for nearly 300 years, and the grounds preserve its distinctive white lead-tile roofs and elegant stone walls. Several gates and storehouses have been meticulously reconstructed using traditional joinery, without modern nails or bolts. The park connects directly to Kenroku-en, one of Japan's three most celebrated landscape gardens, and the recently restored Gyokusen-inmaru Garden adds another strolling option. Walking through the Hishi Yagura turret and Gojukken Nagaya storehouse gives a clear sense of the Maeda domain's wealth. Winter visits are rewarding when snow covers the white walls and evening illumination events are held.
The castle gardens are free. Gyokusen-inmaru Garden is illuminated at night and often overlooked.
