Kanazakura Shrine

Reaching this mountain shrine requires climbing roughly 300 stone steps through a corridor of massive cedar trees, some over 800 years old. The shrine has stood on this spot for nearly 2,000 years, though the current buildings are Edo-era reconstructions. The name means 'Golden Cherry Blossom,' and the late-blooming ukon-zakura variety here produces rare pale yellow flowers in mid-April.
