Kamuiwakka yunotaki Hot Falls
カムイワッカ湯の滝
Overview
Hot spring water from Mt. Iwo volcano mixing with river creating natural outdoor onsen waterfall experience.
At Kamuiwakka Hot Falls on the Shiretoko Peninsula, hot spring water from the active Mount Iwo volcano mixes with a mountain stream, creating a series of warm pools you can actually bathe in. You climb barefoot up the rocky riverbed to reach them, water temperature rising with each step. The sulfurous warmth set against dense old-growth forest feels genuinely wild. The falls are open roughly June through October, with shuttle buses replacing private vehicles during peak season. The surrounding UNESCO World Heritage wilderness is home to brown bears, Steller's sea eagles, and spotted seals.
