Overview

Tiny cliff-fringed island that inspired Mishima's novel, with a dramatic coastal hiking loop.

The island of Kamishima, about 40 minutes by ferry from Toba port, is renowned for its beautiful scenery. A stroll around the island takes about two hours. The picturesque alleyways of the fishing village and the nature trail that winds through the forests and around the coastline are among the many places to explore. Along the way you will see a traditional white-tiled lighthouse and the site of a former imperial army building, now converted into an observation deck.
