亀ヶ岡石器時代遺跡
Archaeological site famous for yielding the iconic, goggle-eyed Jomon clay figurines.
This famous archaeological site represents the final stages of the Jomon period. It is best known as the discovery site of the iconic 'Goggle-eyed Dogu' clay figurine. The low-lying wetland environment contributed to the incredible preservation of lacquerware and pottery found here.
While the site itself is mostly open fields, you can see a massive statue of the goggle-eyed Dogu towering over the nearby Kizukuri train station.
