Overview

Former site of Tsuyama Castle, now a park with over 1,000 cherry trees and stone walls recalling its past.

Kakuzan Park sits on a hillside in Tsuyama, Okayama Prefecture, where the stone foundations of Tsuyama Castle still outline the original shape of the fortress destroyed in 1875. Within these ruins, over 1,000 cherry trees have been planted across the terraced slopes, turning the park into one of the most photographed cherry blossom sites in the Chugoku region each spring. Outside of blossom season, the park is a pleasant place to walk with views over the city from the upper levels. A small museum near the entrance covers the castle's history and the town's role in regional administration during the Edo period.
