Miyajima oysters are harvested from the mineral-rich waters of Hiroshima Bay, and Kakiya is the island's dedicated oyster restaurant. The menu runs through raw oysters on the half shell, oysters grilled over charcoal in their shells, oysters deep fried as kaki-furai, and oyster rice. Season runs October through April with peak harvest in winter. The restaurant has outdoor seating on the approach to Itsukushima Shrine, so you can eat with the red torii gate visible from your table. Queue early as the lines build quickly.
