Kajiyama Goten
旧梶山御殿
Overview
Kajiyama Goten (Kajiyama Palace) was built in the Edo period (1603–1867) in a corner of the grounds of Kushima Castle as a second residence for members of the Omura family.
Single-story sukiya-style residence on the former grounds of Kushima Castle, was built by the tenth Omura lord in the early 1800s and rebuilt in 1915 after the castle was demolished. The design follows the refined simplicity of tea house architecture: tatami rooms divided by sliding fusuma doors, an enclosed veranda opening to a landscaped garden, and Omura Bay as the backdrop. When the Meiji government dismantled most castles in 1871, the Omura family, who had supported the imperial restoration, were allowed to keep the property. Since 1963 it has been managed by Nagasaki Prefecture as an educational facility and is not open to the public.
