Jozaiji Temple

Jozaiji Temple traces its founding to the early 8th century, with roots in the Sanron school of Buddhism before converting to Shingon practice in 1012. Inside, a statue of Daikokuten, one of the Seven Lucky Gods associated with wealth and prosperity, is the principal object of worship. Two stone guardian deities carved in 1825 from local stone flank the main gate, their fierce expressions meant to keep evil from entering the grounds. Both statues are designated cultural assets of Ureshino City. The temple is a calm, compact stop that rewards a slow walk through its gated entrance.
