Jojuji Temple

Jojuji Temple draws visitors primarily in autumn, when maple trees along the stone stairways change color. The temple follows the Obaku Zen school, introduced from China in the 17th century, and its architecture retains clear Ming-dynasty influences. The main hall doubles as a meditation space, and connected buildings form a straight-line layout typical of Obaku style. The Hojo, once part of a daimyo's mansion, contains hidden guard spaces and a child-sized escape passage. It opens to the public during Golden Week and in autumn, when the veranda overlooks a pond garden with water lilies.
