Jiyuya Summer Slope (Water Jump Park)
landmark
自由屋サマーゲレンデ(ウォータージャンプパーク)
Most people come to Shizukuishi for snow sports in the winter, but Jiyuya offers the opportunity to try skiing or snowboarding in the snowless seasons, with a water landing at the end.
Jiyuya lets skiers and snowboarders practice jumps and tricks in the snowless months, landing in a pool of water at the bottom of three slopes of varying difficulty. The facility was created by an instructor who wanted to give snow sports enthusiasts a way to stay sharp during summer. Beginners can start on the easiest slope and build up gradually, while experienced athletes from other prefectures visit to refine aerial techniques. Staff are all active skiers and snowboarders who offer coaching and encouragement. Children can participate from age four. All gear, including life jackets and helmets, is available to rent. The site also includes a skateboarding area and is open rain or shine.
