伊豆大島
Largest of the Izu archipelago islands, this 91 km² island is home to Mt. Mihara volcano.
Largest of the Izu Islands, dominated by the 758-meter active volcano Mt. Mihara, whose caldera you can hike with views stretching to Mt. Fuji on clear days. The island is famous for its camellia blooms from January through March, celebrated each year in a colorful festival. Black volcanic sand beaches and warm diving waters fill out the outdoor options. Local cuisine leans on ashitaba, a mineral-rich wild plant, and fresh seafood. High-speed ferries from Tokyo reach the island in under two hours, making it a legitimate tropical-feeling escape without a long journey.
Wash thoroughly at the shower stations before entering the bath. This is non-negotiable etiquette. Bring a small towel but keep it out of the water.
