Iwakuni Castle
castle
岩国城
Mountain-top, three-storied and four-layered castle with views over Kintai Bridge.
A mountaintop castle reached by ropeway that offers commanding views over the Kintaikyo Bridge and Nishiki River far below. While reconstructed in 1962, the three-story keep occupies the original 1608 site atop Mount Shiroyama, abandoned after just seven years when mountain castles were banned. The castle museum displays samurai artifacts and explains the bridge-and-castle relationship.
