Isumi Railway

いすみ鉄道
Scenic local line winding through Chiba's flower fields, celebrated for spring canola blossoms and yellow trains.
The Isumi Railway runs a narrow-gauge line through the agricultural interior of Chiba, covering 26 kilometers between Ohara on the coast and Kazusa-Nakano further inland. In spring the tracks pass through rapeseed fields that turn the surrounding landscape bright yellow, making it popular with photographers who time visits to catch the vintage diesel trains rolling through the color. The line runs infrequently so check the timetable in advance, and consider the full round trip as the main event. Stations are largely unchanged from decades past and feel genuinely rural.
