石段の湯
Historical public bathhouse on Ikaho's famous 365 stone steps featuring iron-rich 'gold' water.
Located near the base of Ikaho's iconic stone stairway. This modest public bathhouse is one of the best places to experience the town's 'Kogane-no-yu' (Gold Water). The water is initially clear but turns a distinctive rusty-orange color when exposed to air due to its high iron content. It is prized for its ability to warm the body and improve circulation. The facility is small and unpretentious, reflecting the daily bathing rituals of the local community. It is a Registered Tangible Cultural Property and, notably, is fully tattoo-friendly. Its location makes it the perfect starting point for exploring the various shops and traditional inns that line the atmospheric steps of the resort.
Wash thoroughly at the shower stations before entering the bath. This is non-negotiable etiquette. Bring a small towel but keep it out of the water.
