Farms in the Irodori network are private, but visitors can go to Irodori Yama, which has a public facility offering hands-on programs like planting and harvesting.
Irodori Yama in Kamikatsu was launched in 2018 to address overgrown cedar forests, a consequence of cheap imported timber driving local companies out of the lumber industry decades earlier. Community members including schoolchildren, farmers, and Irodori trainees have been clearing the overcrowded cedars and planting alternative species. The site now also functions as a test garden for the Irodori leaf and flower farming project, trialing plant varieties and training prospective farmers. Hands-on programs open to visitors include planting and harvesting sessions. The garden can also be seen from a distance on the Irodori Bridge over the Katsuura River, which provides a good overview of the operation.
